Summer

Summer

There is no shortage of things to do in Vermont in the summer for vacation rental guests of the Windham Country House. Some of the most frequently enjoyed are described below.

SWIMMING - Swimming at Townshend Lake, just 10 minutes away, is a favorite of vacation rental guests, especially those with children. There are also many other lakes, ponds, rivers, and swimming holes nearby, all with refreshing and clean Vermont water.

HIKING - Those who enjoy hiking will find a multitude of choices available at Townshend State Park, Jamaica State Park, and numerous other nearby locations. You can also hike to the top of Stratton Mountain for a breathe-taking view. Less energetic companions can meet you at the top by taking Stratton’s gondola ride.

GOLFING - Golfers enjoy the local Tater Hill Golf course, set among manicured gardens with mountain views. Windham Country House guests have praised the 18-hole course. Other fine golf courses are nearby at Mount Snow, Bromley Mountain, Stratton Mountain, and Gleneagles in Manchester.

RIDING - Other summer time things to do include mountain biking, horseback riding, and boating. Trails and waterways are plentiful, and you can rent the equipment you need, be it bicycle, horse, canoe, raft, or kayak. Another delightful summer time ride is aboard the Green Mountain Flyer, a restored 1930's train which winds through the scenic southern Vermont landscape, pleasing both children and adults.

MUSIC and THEATER - Southern Vermont is alive with music in the summer. The Manchester Music Festival performs classical music on Thursday nights in July and August. You can hear a variety of other styles in the area from jazz to rock to old time mountain music. For entertaining theatrical performances, including Broadway musical hits, the Weston Playhouse and Dorset Theatre are nearby.

CROQUET - Go no further than the grounds of the Windham Country House to enjoy a rousing game of croquet. The field might offer a few surprises with its bumpy Vermont terrain, yet some vacation rental guests find it to be one of their favorite things to do in Vermont.
